It is made from two pieces of heavy gauge tin attached together to give it some three dimensional form. The surface is old black over the original black paint. S72 19th Century American Eagle Weathervane. It has a good old painted surface and excellent structural condition. Large and aggressive the eagle shows superior stance and character with strong details, although patriotic feelings where strong following the Revolution and during the early Federal period it was not until the 1850's that the eagle Motif was widely used. This Weather Vane, shows the individual craftsmanship of the maker . It measures 17" tall, 33 1/2" long with a 26 1/2" wing span.
